Co-Parenting

When a couple is actively raising children while going through a separation and divorce, it means the couples parenting relationship continues but transforms from partners into co-parents. Co-parenting counseling is meant to help you and your separating spouse with this transition and define what this new relationship will look like while keeping the focus on the responsibilities of caring for and raising your children.

It can be helpful to think about how you would like your children to recall their parents divorce when going through this process as they are particularly vulnerable and impacted by the dissolution of the relationship.

Co-parenting counseling is different from couple’s therapy in that the focus is on relationship transition rather than relationship reconciliation. While we will attempt to identify relationship dynamics between co-parents that could hinder or help the working relationship on behalf of the children, the primary focus is developing your co-parenting plan, reducing conflict and improving communication
